Coconut Bacon Bits (Vegan and Oil-Free)
These vegan bacon bits will not disappoint. They are crispy, crunchy, with a touch of sweetness, and taste just like real bacon. Perfect for making a vegan BLT sandwich or the perfect addition to any soup, salad, or potato.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ Tbsp Braggs Liquid Aminos (or Tamari, Coconut Aminos)
- 1½ Tbsp Maple Syrup
- 1½ Tbsp Hickory Liquid Smoke
- ½ tsp Smoked Paprika
- ⅛ tsp Onion Powder, unsalted
- ⅛ tsp Garlic Powder, unsalted
- ¾ tsp Balsamic Vinegar (or Apple Cider Vinegar)
- ⅛ tsp Hickory Smoked Torula Yeast (optional, but highly recommend)
- 1 cup Coconut Flakes, unsweetened (not shredded)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 275 °F
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Add all of the ingredients except for the coconut flakes to a medium size bowl. Whisk the marinade together well.
- Add the coconut flakes to the marinade. Mix all contents together well. Set aside and allow the coconut flakes to marinate for 30 minutes.
- Evenly spread the marinaded coconut onto the parchment-lined cookie sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After 22 minutes of cooking, stir around the flakes and spread evenly. Continue to cook for an additional 3 minutes. NOTE: Be sure to keep an eye on the flakes during the last 3 minutes of cook time to ensure that they do not burn.
- Remove the Coconut Bacon bites from the oven. Allow them to cool for at least 15 minutes to crisp up.
- Serve as desired. Enjoy!
- Store the leftover Coconut Bacon bits in a tightly sealed glass jar. They will keep in the fridge for several weeks.
