Banana-Apple-Oat Waffles

Waffles – need I say!  These sweet and fluffy waffles are made of simple wholesome ingredients –  whole grains, fruits, and spices with no added salt, oil, or sugar!   It doesn’t get any better than this!

I recently purchased Ann and Jane Essyelstyn’s Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease Cookbook and made the “All-Oat Waffles”.  The second time I made these fabulous waffles I didn’t have all of the ingredients, the rest is history.  The  Banan-Apple_Oat Waffles has become one of the family’s favorites!

So now just a couple of tips!  Always keep very ripe bananas handy on the table top or in the freezer.  They are great for adding sweetness without adding processed sugars.  Applesauce makes for a great substitute for not only processed sugars but is also a great substitute for oils in recipes.  Just be sure when buying applesauce to by “Unsweetened” Applesauce.

I could (and have) eat this waffles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with no guilt.  So what are you waiting for?  Whip up these delicious waffles and enjoy!

Banana-Apple-Oat Waffles

These sweet and fluffy waffles are made of simple wholesome ingredients -  whole grains, fruits, and spices with no added salt, oil, or sugar!

Total Time 15 mins
Cuisine Salt, Oil, Sugar, and Gluten Free
Servings 2 Waffles


  • 1 large Banana, very ripe
  • 1/2 cup Applesauce, Unsweetend
  • 2 Tbsp Ground Golden Flaxseed
  • 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 1 cup Oats, Old Fashioned Rolled


  • Preheat non-stick waffle griddle. Because of the extended time the waffles must cook, set the temperature of the griddle at a medium-low setting.
  • Add the ripe banana, applesauce, cinnamon, ground golden flaxseed, and vanilla extract to a blender. Blend until very smooth. Then add rolled oats to blender. Pulse a few times until mixture comes together and flecks of the oats are visible.
  • Pour 3/4 cup of batter onto heated griddle. Flatten batter slightly. Close the lid and allow to cook for 10 minutes. Do not open griddle before time. Use a chopstick to remove waffles from the griddle.
  • Enjoy as is or top with your favorit fresh fruit, nuts, and or syrup!

    These stuck horribly to my waffle iron and were burnt on the outside while raw on the inside. I followed the recipe and instructions exactly, but my iron has no way to adjust temperature. I can’t believe that would cause such a drastic failure, as my regular blended oat waffle recipe works fine. Maybe warn people not to even attempt this recipe if their iron doesn’t have a “medium-low” setting?

      Hello Tonya! So sorry to hear that your end result was not up to par due to the fact that your waffle iron does not allow temperature adjustment as indicated in step 1 of the recipe. However, it does makes a significant difference in the outcome of the recipe. Thank you for sharing your experience. Hopefully, you can revisit this wonderful waffle recipe if you acquire a griddle with a temp/browning adjustment option. Have a great day because you simply can!

    Love these waffles. I had to get a new non stick waffle iron with a temp adjustment. So worth it. I eat these waffles every Saturday. just love them. Especially with applesauce and berries or pear sauce and berries.

Having a non-stick waffle iron with a temp/browning adjustment is so worth the investment and a game changer when trying different variations of waffles.     I enjoyed meeting your family on Chef AJ’s show recently. I will be trying several of your recipes. We had these waffles for breakfast this morning. These are delicious! We doubled the recipe to get it to blend in our wide-base Vita-mix. Good thing as we each ate an entire waffle! Thank you for recommending the medium-low heat setting. I have found most plant based waffles very difficult to get cooked all the way through and these cooked perfectly. We will be enjoying these waffles regularly.
